Ahmed Amer received his Ph.D. working with Prof. Darrell Long. His doctoral research included work on the automated grouping of data for placement and mobile applications. Dr. Amer remains a research associate with the SSRC, and serves on the faculty of Computer Engineering at Santa Clara University.

Laboratories. He is also a Research Fellow at the
University of California,

Mohammed G. Khatib
Mohammed G. Khatib is a fourth-year PhD candidate in
computer science
at the
University of Twente
in the Netherlands. His main research interest is energy efficiency of storage systems. He is investigating the use of emerging MEMS-based storage technology and building a hybrid storage hierarchy from disk drives and flash memories. Mohammed visited the SSRC from January through May of 2008, where he worked with Professor Miller on workload-based configuration of
MEMS-based storage devices.

Witold Litwin

Director of Centre d'Etudes et de Recherches en Informatique Appliquée (CERIA).
He is a Fellow of the ACM
(the only one in France), and a world authority of scalable data structures. He is the author of more than 150 publications and has contributed to or edited 11 books.

Prof. Youjip Won is currently an Associate Professor at
Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering,
Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea. Previously, he was with Intel as server
performance analyst. His research interests include Storage Systems,
Multimedia Networking, Internet Traffic Modeling and Analysis. He is
particularly interested in operating system/file system support for massive

Erez Zadok
Erez Zadok is on the faculty at Stony Brook University, where he is the coordinator of the File Systems and Storage Laboratory (FSL). Robert Dahlgren
Robert Dahlgren is a post-graduate researcher at UCSC, working in the Baskin School of Engineering Photonics Group. Robert is a Senior member of the IEEE and brings a multi-disciplinary background to the SSRC. Robert's undergraduate degree is in EE from Minnesota, and he holds an MS Physics from SJSU, and a second MS in Aeronautics from MIT. Prior employers include Control Data, Sperry, Draper Lab, and Fujikura. Robert has also taught at UC Berkeley and The Exploratorium. His research interests include the physics and characterization of optical data storage, optical devices and systems, particularly the physics and reduction to practice of optical sensors.

Masaru Takahashi
Masaru Takahashi works at the Japan Patent Office (JPO), and is visiting the SSRC in 2007–08. He is working with Prof. Miller on secure archival storage systems and issues in petascale storage systems including reliability and security.
