SSRC paper to appear at FAST 09

An SSRC paper on scalable metadata management will be published at the FAST 09 conference in February 2009. The paper describes techniques for building searchable indexes from subtrees of a very large-scale directory structure, allowing fast searches across file metadata.

The techniques described should lead to the design and implementation of file systems that better support searching through billions of files for a small number of results. This approach is particularly effective if, as is often the case in file systems, similar files occupy a relatively small part of the file system hierarchy.
