Pergamum paper is StorageMojo.com's favorite FAST 08 paper

March 14, 2008

StorageMojo.com says that their favorite FAST 08 paper was the paper on Pergamum, a energy-efficient disk-based archival storage system, written by Mark Storer, Kevin Greenan, and Ethan Miller, all from the SSRC, and Kaladhar Voruganti from NetApp. StorageMojo notes that I really like the thinking behind Pergamum: Replacing Tape with Energy Efficient, Reliable, Disk-Based Archival Storage. Of particular interest was the use of NVRAM and distributed RAID techniques on powered-down drives.

For more information, please see the page on archival storage projects at the SSRC.
